Platforms & websites

What types of websites does Virtualtopia build?

Virtualtopia works across WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, static websites and custom development. The platform is chosen around the needs of the project rather than using the same system for every website.

Do I need to know which platform I want?

No. It is usually better to begin with what the website needs to do, who will manage it and what the long-term requirements are. From there, the most suitable platform can be recommended.

When is WordPress a good choice?

WordPress is often a good fit when you need flexible content management, custom forms, plugins, integrations, structured content or functionality that may grow over time.

When would Shopify be better?

Shopify is usually strongest when ecommerce is the main purpose of the website and you want a managed platform built around products, checkout, payments and store operations.

What about Wix or Squarespace?

Both can work well for smaller business and professional websites where ease of editing and an all-in-one managed platform are important. Squarespace tends to suit design-led sites and portfolios particularly well, while Wix offers flexible visual editing and a broad set of built-in business tools.

Is a static website too basic?

No. Static describes how the site is delivered, not how sophisticated it looks. A static site can still be responsive, highly designed, SEO-friendly and interactive. It is often a strong choice where speed, security and low maintenance are priorities.

Can a static website still use forms and other dynamic features?

Yes. Static websites can connect to forms, APIs, booking systems, payment services and other external or backend systems. A hybrid setup can also keep WordPress or another system behind the scenes for selected functionality.

Existing websites

Can Virtualtopia work on an existing website?

Yes. Existing websites can be repaired, improved, migrated, redesigned or supported without necessarily rebuilding the entire site.

Do you only support websites you originally built?

No. Websites built by other developers can also be reviewed and supported. The first step is usually understanding the platform, hosting and current condition of the site.

How do I know whether to repair or rebuild?

If the platform is still sound, a targeted repair or cleanup may be enough. A rebuild makes more sense when the architecture is unsupported, badly compromised, extremely difficult to maintain or no longer capable of meeting the business requirement.

Can you move a website to another platform?

Yes. Platform and hosting migrations can be part of the work where moving is genuinely the best option. The existing content, functionality, SEO considerations and redirects should all be considered before migration.

Hosting & support

Does Virtualtopia provide hosting?

Yes. Hosting can be provided alongside website development and support. Existing hosting can also be reviewed if performance, reliability or management has become a problem.

Do you provide ongoing website maintenance?

Yes. Support can include software updates, troubleshooting, content changes, performance work, backups and general technical help.

Can support be occasional rather than ongoing?

Yes. Some clients need regular maintenance, while others only need help when something changes, breaks or needs improving.

Can you help if my website has been hacked?

Security incidents can be investigated and recovery options assessed. Depending on the situation, that may involve cleaning compromised files, restoring from a safe backup, removing vulnerable components and strengthening the site afterwards.

SEO & GEO

Does Virtualtopia provide SEO?

Yes. SEO work can include technical foundations, page structure, titles and descriptions, content guidance, performance, internal linking and other on-page improvements.

What is GEO?

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimisation. It focuses on making website content easier for AI-powered search systems and answer engines to understand, summarise and reference.

Does GEO replace SEO?

No. GEO builds on good SEO and strong content. Search engines and AI systems both benefit from clear structure, useful information, strong entity signals and technically accessible pages.

Ownership & project scope

Will I own my website?

The exact ownership and platform terms depend on the type of project. With self-hosted or static builds, the site files can generally be handed over directly. Hosted platforms such as Shopify, Wix and Squarespace operate under their own platform terms and account structures.

How much does a website cost?

Cost depends on scope, platform, content, design, integrations and custom functionality. A small static or brochure site is very different from an ecommerce build or a website with complex workflows, so pricing is best based on the actual requirement.

Do I need everything planned before contacting you?

No. A rough outline is enough to begin. It is often more useful to describe what you want the website to achieve, what exists now and what problems you are trying to solve.

What happens after a website launches?

That depends on the project. Some sites need regular updates and support, while others can run with very little intervention. Hosting, security, backups, maintenance and future improvements can all be planned around the site you actually have.

Still not sure what your website needs?

That is fine. Describe what you are trying to achieve or what is going wrong with the current site, and we can help work out the most sensible next step.
